In 1970, the road in front of the Wolslegel's house was still just a quiet dirt road. In 1971, Harriette and Walter Wolslegel immediately knew this was the place to raise their five kids and settled in. 36 years and 1,000 stories later, mom and dad, and all five kids and their families still return to the place whenever possible. Hopefully, we'll keep returning for the next 36 years, appreciating the past and building new memories..
The house contains many antiques handed down through the generations, as well as paintings by Walter Wolslegel Sr. (grandpa), dating back to the 1950s. The house is completely and nicely furnished. Many furnishings are brand new, including: a beautiful Ashley dinning set, sofa, leather recliner, reading chair, leather settee, many lamps, BBQ grill, outdoor furniture, etc. Beyond the furnishings, the house comes stocked with things such as: wine glasses, good quality cooking utensils, many interesting books, a collection of National Geographic magazines, a woodstove, vacuum cleaner, washer & dryer, a brand new energy efficient dishwasher, a 32" TV & DVD, etc., all to help make the place comfortable and easy to move in and call your own while you stay. All you'll need is your clothes, a bottle of wine and dinner.
The house can be heated with both wood and oil. The furnace is modern and efficient and includes an air filtration system. Firewood is stored in the basement, and the centrally located woodstove provides a great source of heat and atmosphere. All lamps have been equipped with energy efficient, compact fluorescent light bulbs. Several new storm windows and other efficiencies have been made at the house, and whenever he has the chance, the owner (Ken Wolslegel) makes more improvements. Last year, while the tenant was away for holidays, the downstairs bathroom was touched up, bedroom floors refinished, and new storm windows installed. This summer, the upstairs bathroom is getting a remodeling and the front doorway restored.
Old fashioned, charming country towns like Woodstock, Connecticut are special places. An old home with a great history and its own unique warmth that reflects the people who lived there, is very special too. Over the years guests from all across the U.S. and at least 20 different countries have stayed at the house and shared its warmth. Some even helped chop the firewood or harvest vegetables from the once huge garden. We are looking to rent the house to an individual or family who can appreciate how special the place is and enjoy the quiet, friendly country life it offers. Responsibility and respect for the property are required attributes of any renter. The owner promises the same in return.
